Tech Note 1: Installation
Reliable functioning of Spicer hubs requires shim gaskets be used to maintain proper clearances. Two of these Shim Gaskets (one on either side of QU40547 splined hub body) are used for each 1960’s to 1971 Spicer factory hubs with metal dials. The 1970-1977 Spicer Plastic dial hub uses one of these shim gaskets between the wheel hub and QU40547 steel splined hub body and a paper gasket (TK40573) between the splined hub body and QU40546UAS outer chrome cap.

Tech Note 2: Design
Spicer external mount factory lock-out hubs were designed for use with gaskets of specific thicknesses. Do not use RTV or other sealants in lieu of gaskets.
