Applications

Tech Note 1: Little Bearing, Big Job
These little bearings carry almost all the weight of your heavy axle shafts. The only support point inside the axle housing is the differential itself, there are no bearings or bushings in the axle tubes except on the disconnect side of 1989-1993 Dodge Dana 44 axles with vacuum controlled central axle disconnect systems.

Tech Note 2: Seals and Thrust Washers
Over the years, several seal and thrust washer configurations were used to protect this bearing. For mid 1970’s and later, all applications will use either QU40056 Small V-Seal or QU40556 Unitized Seal/Thrust Washer. QK4734 Spindle Bearings must be installed deep enough that the thrust washer will seat against the spindle face. For ALL applications, care must be taken not to seat the bearing too deep as it will bind if pressed beyond the machined bore.

Tech Note 3: Bearing Depth
Early production Dana 30 and Dana 44 open knuckle axles that used these bearings (generally prior to 1975) did not use QU40056 Small Spindle V-Seal between the spindle bearing and axle shaft thrust washer. Spindles from these early axles are not bored deep enough to install both a spindle bearing and a seal. Circa 1975 and later axles do have deeper spindle bearing bores. For these axles, use optional QT1134 Spindle Bearing Installer to seat your new QK4734 Spindle Bearings to the correct depth below the spindle face to permit the installation of QU40056 Small spindle V-Seal
